SPIRITUAL MESSAGE FOR APRIL

Spring, here in Nevada County (northern California), is so lovely. I moved here in 2004 from Los Angeles and am grateful for so many things about my new community, especially our four spectacular seasons, unlike in L.A. where it was mainly sunny and sometimes windy or rainy. The plants here change often and it's a delight to catch each of their many colors and textures. I've been deeply involved in personal spiritual transformation all my life, so I relate to the changes in nature because they reflect inner transformations. Each tree, flower and bird has unique qualities that shift and change along with ones that remain complete in themselves. This is like us. We all have multiple aspects throughout our lives, some morphing into new ways of expressing as the old ways are no longer essential, others becoming stronger and still others remaining foundational.

As the opportunities to change make themselves available to us, we have the choice to ignore them or dive in. I believe that all challenges and problems are based upon fear. So when we begin looking deeply into who we are, we are often scared away, assuming what we discover will annihilate us, hurt others, make others reject us, or be so ugly or horrendous that we would rather live narrowly than engage with these aspects and what they have to teach us.

I've worked with dreams my entire life and have learned how important they are in helping us to know ourselves and the messages of our Souls. Most people believe nightmares or "bad" dreams are to be rejected and avoided - usually there is an underlying belief that these dreams come either from an outside "evil" force or are statements of how terrible we are. Either way, we don't want to look at them.

What I've found to be true every time, is that nightmares are messages that we've been ignoring so long that they must come forth in a way that gets our attention. In some cases, nightmares are profound and powerful experiences that give us opportunity to make necessary changes in our outer life as well as develop our inner, spiritual life. Most people ignore or reject dreams as unimportant so they have not spent the time to learn their own dream symbology by keeping a dream journal and going back to re-read them from time to time. When we do this, we begin to see through our immediate interpretations that were based upon inexperience in working with dreams. We can discover the rich underpinnings and lush landscape of the world of dreams - which, I fully believe, is just as much a reality as what we generally consider to be so. I believe we live in multiple levels of existence at one time where there is no time and space the way we know them. So when we work with dreams and accept them as coming from any of these realities, we expand our recall of who and what we truly are. So many people struggle with spiritual growth, believing it to be so far away from them that they can't possibly become enlightened. The truth is that we already are - our task is to remember. And dreams can help us do that.
